State Deputy Ken Girt

Kenneth J. Girt

Kenneth J. Girt was born in Massillon on May 30, 1950, the eldest of seven children of James and Patricia Girt.   He received his elementary education at St. Barbara’s Catholic School in Massillon and graduated from high school at Brunnerdale Seminary, Canton, in 1968.  He received an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at the Stark State College in 1977. Ken also served his country for two years in the U. S. Army in the Signal Corps.

Ken and his wife, Linda, were married in 1977. They have three children; daughters Christina Hikita (Steve) and Laura Porrini (Josh) and son Richard (Jessica).  They have three grandsons.

Ken and Linda are members of St. Mary’s Church in Massillon, where Ken is an Eucharist Minister and has been a Reader at Mass since 1978.  He also taught CCD at the parish and served on the Youngstown Diocese Board of Religious Education for five years, and served as Board President for two years.

Ken is employed by Ametek, Inc. as a Sales Engineer in their Floorcare & Specialty Motor Division, headquartered in Kent, Ohio. He is in his 37th year with Ametek.

Ken joined the Knight of Columbus in 1981 at Massillon Council 554.  He was his council’s Grand Knight twice – in 1988-1990 and again in 1997-1998. He joined the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus in 1985 and served as Bishop Massillon Assembly’s Faithful Navigator.  Ken also served as President of the Stark County Chapter Knights of Columbus.

Ken was honored as Council 554 Knight of the Year in 1986 and in 1994, he and Linda were honored as the Ohio Family of the Year, and were fourth runner-up in Supreme Council’s International Family of the Year.

Ken served as a District Deputy from 1990 to1993, then served the Ohio State Council as a State Director of Church, Youth, Membership, Family and was  General Program Director before being elected State Warden in 2005.  He served as State Advocate, State Treasurer, and State Secretary before being elected State Deputy in 2013.
